--- sproggy info ---

I've been into dance music and the club scene since the mid 80s.  After considering DJing on and off over the years I finally bought my first Turntables on 24/5/04.  After less than a year of practice I was lucky to get a chance of a monthly gig at my own local pub.  Nothing spectacular came of these gigs, the biggest attendance I had was about 25 people, but a lot of fun was had and valuable confidence gained, I also enjoyed the support of a few very fine guest DJs.  The monthly gigs died a death eventually, but a few months later I asked if I could have a practice on the in-house CD decks in the pub as I had only mixed on vinyl up to then and I was preparing for a gig where I would use CDs and vinyl.   The management liked the sound of the tunes I played, they were more commercial than I used to play at the monthly gigs, and I got offered a weekly residency.

Early 2006 the management moved to run a pub in Oldham town centre and invited me to continue my residency there.   I played every week for 6 months until the brewery sold the premises and we had to leave.  I really appreciated this time and found my skills and confidence developed quite considerably.  I had people dancing to my tunes and enjoying the music every week, the customers were less inhibited than they were back in my old local.  I'd been told on a few occasions that ours was the only pub in Oldham centre which played certain genres, I was proud to be a part of what we offered - an open-minded venue where anything goes musically.

Well since the gigs dried up, I've been working hard at preparing myself for anything.  On the one hand I have a couple of styles which I want to develop - House/NuDisco/Electro, and Hard/NRG/Bouncy/DnB, and on the other hand I feel called to be one of the few DJs who will play absolutely any style of Dance music.  So my goals leave me with a lot of collecting and preparation to do with my tunes, I want to be able to play at least one night of any genre.  I have got so engrossed in the preparation work since my residencies finished that I haven't done much mixing or recorded any demos.  But I know that I'm soon reaching a turning point, when I'm ready to mix a lot more, start recording and disributing demos, and go out and hunt for those elusive gigs.

Thanks for taking an interest.  I hope that by sharing my experiences I will encourage and support others who choose a similar path.
